BIO FOR LINDA (BENNETT) SPENCER

After graduation from high school in Southern California, I married my husband (a career military officer) and moved to his home state of Texas. Each time he was overseas, I moved to be near his parents. He was killed during the TET offensive in Vietnam in 1968. At that time our children were 2,4, and 5.

I started college that year and graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in Home Economics Education. I taught in Texas, then later moved and taught in Christian schools in the Pacific Northwest when my sons and daughter were teenagers. After my eldest son graduated from high school, the younger two and I moved to The Canary Islands where I taught a year.

We returned the following year for my daughter to finish her last year of high school in the Seattle area. The boys were in college. Ruth returned to our old hometown in Texas during her college years and met and married her husband. Several years later, my eldest son and his family joined me in returning to Texas. I have been in business for myself for 18 years now as an alterationist -specializing in bridal and evening wear. Retirement is in the plans for this summer, though. Currently my family includes my son, Floyd, and his wife and 3 teenagers (the eldest of those is in the Navy); my middle son and his wife and two very young sons ages 3 and 2 months who live in Norway; and my daughter with her husband and 3 young children ages 9, 5, and 1- who live very close to me in Holliday, Texas. My daughter has been my pastor's wife for 18 years. --Linda (Bennett) Spencer
