I have lived in Orange County, CA for 30 plus exciting years. Hard to believe 40 years have passed!
I am a gereatric specialist, owned my own board and care for the elderly and worked closely with regulations and rewrote Title 22 - the care home reform laws for the nation. I've been a nursing home activist closing down bad nursing homes and slowly making changes. Alzheimers is my specialty and President Reagan was my private patient for awhile.
Living down here - it's only natural to get the show biz bug and for years I doubled and signed autographs for Shirley McClaine, and also appeared in lots of sitcoms in the 80's. I am an artist and paint life size murals all over Southern California for the famous and the infamous.
My 3 kids all went up North to college, graduated, married and moved back up there. They all love the rain!! The most fun part about having your kids marry, of course, are the grandkids. I have 5 - from newborn to 9 years old! Can't wait to see everybody! See you July 7th!!

Comment: Graduated from OTI - Klamath Falls Oregon and went to work as an X-Ray tech at the Veterans Administration Medical Center. I retired from the VAMC as Manager of the X-RAY Department after 25 years of service. I've been married to my second wife for 28 years and have three children and nine grandchildren. I like to hunt, camp (in a travel trailer) and travel. Most of our trips are to Massachusetts where our youngest son lives with his wife and 18-month old twins. But we have traveled to Mexico, England and the central and western United States.Sue (Johnson) Roth

I still live in the house where I was raised (right behind Montavilla Park), so my three children are Madison graduates as well. I have one son, Kelly McKiernan, class of 1982 (wife Ali, sons Kevin, 7 and Connor, 5) and two daughters, Michele (McKiernan) Mohr, '84 (husband Brian, daughter Breanna, 10 son Andrew, 8) and Stacie Roth, '95 (happily single and loves to travel).
I've worked in the insurance industry for what seems like forever. For the last six years I have worked for Physician Resource Northwest (formerly MedPartners/Mullikin), currently as their Eligibility Analyst. In keeping with modern technology, I telecommute and am able to work whatever hours/days I choose. I love the flexibility, as well as not having to cope with rush hour traffic, although my social skills these days seem to be limited to communicating with the dog and cats. All in all, a very rewarding life.

I've lived in Troutdale, Oregon the last 12 years- I lost my husband to Cancer 5years ago after being married for 39years. I now live with my two dogs Buddy and Auggie. I have 3 children and 5 grandchildren. I am retired - my last job was working in my daughter Tara and her husband Dr. Larry's Chiropractic Office (City City Chiropractic), for 10 years. I was a stay at home mom for many years. I have traveled to England, Spain, Cabo, and the Hawiian Islands. I enjoy being in a garden club with friends-church-spending time with family-working in my yard and travel.Marylin (Kaufman) Winkenweder

I moved to Seattle 12 years ago to be near my kids who all moved up here to go to college and decided they liked it so much they would stay and so "Why don't you move up here too Mom?"
My oldest, David, was 38 a few days ago - I'm still trying to figure that out since I don't feel much more than 40 something myself. David is the father of a beautiful 8 year old daughter, and works for Metro in Seattle.
Brian, the middle is 35 and he and his wife just this week moved to Denton, Texas where they will both be Professors of Art History at North Texas University. Brian is the scholar in the family having collected 2 BS, 2 Masters, and a PhD. He and his wife hope to start a family now that the PhD's are out of the way.
Kerri, the youngest lives a 1/2 mile from me and she and her husband have 2 little boys and are expecting their 3rd in August. Kerri is a high school English/Spanish teacher but most recently has been serving as Interim Director of Children's Ministries at our church. That role just ended on June 1st, and she is looking forward to spending her time as a stay at home Mom - the single most important job in the world!
As for me, I have been single for 24 years; I really admire those of you who have made it for so many years. I am a licensed insurance agent and work for a State Farm agent in Bellevue, Washington. I commute about 25 miles 1 way every day, and yes, all the horror stories you hear about traffic in Seattle are true. I work for a wonderful Christian man and four other great women so the commute is worth the time it takes. I enjoy my job but I'm looking forward to retirement some day.

I live in Portland (near Beaverton) with my husband Jim (Grant '58) of 32 years. Our sons are 29 and 26. After graduating from OSU, I worked as an executive secretary at Georgia-Pacific. Most of my work since has been non-paid, but rewarding and fun. We have lived in Hartford, Conn. and Seattle and explored England, France, Germany, Spain. Spend my time going to Jazzercise, walking, gardening. Just added bike riding--good for old knees! I always wonder what happened to the newspaper and yearbook people and would love to hear from them!Ron Kenyon

I am retired as a Colonel after 35 years with the Air Force and Army. I am currently a Chaplain with the State of South Carolina serving all law enforcement agencies.
I am fantastically and happily married (36 years) to Carol whom I met at Oregon State University. We have 5 daughters. Kim 34, is married and is the Dean of Women at Word of Life Bible Institute in Florida. Kristin 30, is married and lives in Bucharest, Romania with her family where they are missionaries. Kerri 30, lives in Portland and is finishing her Masters at Western Seminary while working there as the Enrollement Coordinator. Koni 23, is the executive secretary at our state bank here in South Carolina and is also director of Women's Ministry at our church. She is engaged and will be married soon. Our youngest, Kandace 22, will be graduating from college in two weeks (phew, the last of 5 to graduate and no college loans to pay off...God is BIG!).
As our daughter's have grown and have left the nest one by one, our house is feeling less and less like a girls dormatory. It will soon be just Carol and me and we will continue our honeymoon!Vern and Judy (Carroll) Kjargaard

I have been married for 38 years to Larry Darling, Class of '60. We have three children and four grandchildren. I I've worked as an accountant for several high tech firms, most recently InFocus Corp. Last year, they sent me to their European headquarters outside of Amsterdam. I was over there a total of three months. It was an exciting opportunity which allowed me to explore Holland and Germany. I was able to practice my German and even a bit of high school Russian (Thank you, Mrs. McDonald)
Last fall, I decided it was time for a hiatus from working. Since then I've been able to devote more time to my interests, which include gardening, studying German and genealogical research. Lately, my daughter and I have become addicted to estate sales, so most Fridays find us tootling around town with a newspaper in one hand and a city map in the other. I'm looking forward to seeing old (excuse me, that should read former) classmates at the reunion. Thanks to Julane for setting up this great website.

Goodness, 40 years, it must be so, marriages, children, and now grandchildren. I first moved to Michigan, then Georgia and now live in Miami, Florida. I still miss the mountains and the wonderful trails through the woods of Oregon.
I married Arba Ager (Madison class of '60) following two years in college at U of O. We had a son in Michigan and a daughter in Georgia. We moved to Miami in the early '70's. We were divorced and I met and married my husband, Les, fifteen years ago. My son graduated from Florida State University and my daughter graduated from University of Miami. I have four delightful grandchildren, two boys (ages 5 and 4) and two girls (ages 22 months and 18 months).
It is difficult to condense 40 years into a paragraph or two, suffice it to say that the years at Madison are wonderful memories I have shared with my children and now my grandchildren. It is impossible to really describe the taste of a Yaw's burger, a Rutherford's rootbeer float, cruising Broadway on Saturday night, sock hops after the game in the gym, lunch time dances and movies, study hall, after school activities, and so much more. What a great era we were fortunate to "grow up" in!
We are planning to retire outside of Miami in northern Florida to a lovely home on a lake (looks a bit like Oregon). My husband's business affords us the opportunity to travel extensively. I am planning on making the next reunion and sorry I have conflicting plans for this year.Clifford G Latimer

I finished a BA and MA at the U of O, and took additional grad work at WSU and PSU. I was with the administration of Multnomah County's Dept. of Environmental Services, as the environmental specialist and staff assistant to the director back in the middle 70's. Since then, I've taught pre-nursing courses at PCC, and am currently still with the United States Geological Survey in Portland. Got my first publications there....dull scientific monographs, and some PR types of materials.
Still ski and sail a lot, but gave up flying and rock climbing a long time ago. My, we get timid in our old age.
Helped raise some stepchildren, but never had kids of my own. The vicarious experience was sufficient.
Live in Portland, and still ride my bike and/or run up to Madison to try and stay in shape. I cannot believe it has been 40 years. I've kept in contact with a number of folks from grade school and high school, and even worked with Pete Peterson some years back when attempting to broker yachts from Taiwan in this country. It's good to know that so many of my classmates have done so well, and I hope to see them soon in person.
Will be single shortly.John Leo Ph D

Jumping jeeeeesus, where to start! 40 years later (that means a lot of tits going south!), and we're still cackling and cavorting and cooking up even more life adventures.
After graduating from Yale (with both those Nowak bros and brats) I went on to graduate school (a mix of fear, loathing, and affection--and lotsa dope, acid, anti-war demonstrations, and illicit sex). Left with the doctorate in literature and 99% of a M.A. in Art History. By our 25th I was an associate professor at the University of Rhode Island (talk about being unleashed onto an unsuspecting society)--and yikes! I'm now a full professor, a former Director of Graduate Studies in English, and even a former chair of the Program in film Studies.
Some amazing adventures since the mid 80s, at least for me (and I'm not even counting a mix/turnover of girlfriends and boyfriends--perversion has always been my favorite taste! Perhaps the most memorable for me was having the pleasure and the chance to be a Fulbright scholar in Poland 1998-2000 (actually my first year I was Distinguished Fulbright Professor of American Studies). What an eye-opener it was to "relearn" the history of WW2, to discover what a killing field Poland and much of Eastern Europe was (including Belarus and Ukraine), to see how much the Poles have prospered since the early 90s. My students were bright, perky, fluent in about 5 languages on average, funny--in short, Just Like Us. Besides presenting lectures, teaching, working on curriculum reform and faculty development, and publishing, I also was learning the language and practicing my skills in the neighborhood pubs and sampling the 600 or so regional vodkas (research! of another sort). Well, I did lotsa hiking too, and joined my university gym to keep up with my exercise regimen. The Fulbright gig also allows for a huge amount of travel, so much so that I had extra pages sewn into my passport. Now I'm putting all this experience to work at URI, developing courses on topics such as Film and the Cold War.
Still "single" (as befits someone with multiple personalities!), still an unrepentant "liberal" (tho I do have some conservative positions), and remain, as ever, a hardcore pagan. I'm looking forward to this reunion, and to some serious cackling.Terry Lesch
Deceased 5-19-02 (cancer) and interred at Camp Nelson National Cemetery, Nicholasville, KY.

I went to the 25-year reunion, so I had a little update on some of my classmates--most especially Diane Fragall. It was a treat to contact her again. In the last 40 years I have done some travelling (to S.E. Asia, Taiwan, Japan and Mexico). I'm now a permanent resident in Vancouver, B.C., Canada (604) 876-1925.
I have gone to school a total of 11 years during the last 40--couldn't make up my mind and kept retraining--and earned a B.A. and M.A. in English literature, and M.A. in Anthropology, and certificates in Pre-school Teaching and in Elementary Education. After bailing out on my Ph.D. in Anthropology and a university professor's job, I got as far as I could from the politics in universities and taught 3-5 year olds. They're like members of another culture, so my anthropology wasn't wasted. When I burned out from a great but demanding job with little acknowledgement, I graduated to teaching Kindergarten for better pay in the public schools. I work in an inner city school with dedicated colleagues, and my job is really rewarding.
I've pretty well come full circle in relationships too in 40 years. After graduating from U of O, I went into the Peace Corps and married Phillip Thomas (one of our classmates), but both he and I were young and self-centered, and it just didn't work. I had varied relationships over the years after that (which included the era of politics, sex, drugs and rock-and-roll) and ended up with my husband who I brought as a guest to our 25th reunion. We have been married 14 wonderful years!
I'm looking forward to the reunion. This should be a lot of fun! Thanks to all those of you who worked so hard to make it a reality. See you there!Anna (Macklin) Jackson

It's SO NICE to hear from all of you. Let me fill you in on my boring life.
In the '60s, I married Abbey Hoffman and he wrote a book about me: "Steal this Wife---Please!" I was TOO NICE for him, I guess.
In the '70s, I was kidnapped by the Simbianese Liberation Army to drive "getaway", but that didn't work out because Cinque thought I was TOO NICE. Actually, Patty H. was too nice to rob a bank.
The '80s saw me looking for my fortune with Wall Street and junk bonds. I opened an antique shoppe, "Junque Bonds and Jewels" but lost it all in the crash of '87. TOO NICE to be in that game, I guess.
In the '90s, it was time for reflection and election. I applied to become an intern in the Clinton administration, but was rejected because I was TOO NICE. Sooo boring, I know.
If only I could have married a nice man named Ed had three lovely children and work at a college near my loving family in Portland, it would have been different. It will be TOO NICE to see you at the reunion.I went straight to UofO after graduation; took a year off and traveled all over Europe in a VW bug with my brother, Jan. I returned to college to finish my degree and to pick up where I'd left off with my boyfriend, Ed. We got married 3 days after graduation and have managed to keep life interesting together, at least more often than not.
We have two sons and a daughter. Our daughter will be the first to marry, this August. One son is traveling in Asia, working on a travel photography portfolio. Another son is an artist and is has done several interior design projects. Two of these guys have web sites, and you will be rewarded for detouring to them: edgeisphoto.com, aarongeisphoto.com.
I have been working at Portland Community College for 18 years, mostly arranging internships (work experience for credit) for students. Seven years ago I had a chance to go to Japan and teach English for a year. It was an incredible sabbatical, and now I have begun taking tour groups to Japan. I should get my web page, too.
I keep up with Kris Smith Angell, Diana Davis Jorgensen, Sylvia Bonney Bolton, and Julie Hurd Remmerde. My eldest son, Aaron was best man for Kris' son Ethan last September. Very cool. See you on 7/7.Will the real Lynn please come to the reunion?

Wow! 40 years! After graduating from Madison I attended U of O for 3 years, but finished up at PSU as I married my husband of almost 37 years during the summer after my junior year. My degree was in Sociology/Psychology and I worked for Oregon's Children's Services Division for 7 years in Portland and Eugene as a Caseworker (some of that time with Connie Coquillette).
Mike and I left Oregon in 1972 when he was transferred to Fairfield, Californaia with JC Penneys. Subsequently we lived in Sacramento (3years), San Jose (1year), Las Vegas, Nevada (3years), Salt Lake City (2 years-and where I met up again with Norma Stearns Hallberg) and Houston (13years)before moving here to Albuquereque 5 years ago. Mike left Penneys and worked for Mervyn's until his retirement in 1992.
Mike and I have 2 children: Eric, who is 31 and is a helicopter pilot in the USMC. He and his wife, Carrie, and 20 month old Jackson currently live in Yuma, Arizona where Eric's teaching for 3 years at the Marine Corps Aviation Weapons and Tactical School. Jill, 28, is a High School Social Studies teacher currently on sabatical with Carly who is 1 year old. She and her husband, Jason, an engineer in the oil industry, live in Houston. All 4 kids are Texas A&M graduates.
I stayed at home with the kids most of the time while they were growing up, though did return to graduate school and got my MSW at the University of Utah in 1983. At that time we had just been moved to Houston and I took a job at Kingwood High School as a School Social Worker. I took the job because it was close to home, no small feat in Houston, and because Eric was entering 9th grade there. I discovered that it was definitely my calling. I love teenagers and stayed in that job until we moved to Albuquerque , where I promptly got a job as a School Social Worker at Rio Rancho High School. Rio Rancho is the High School that Intel built for 30 million for the community. I love it and will no doubt stay until I retire.
I'm still in close touch with Judy Francis Juve (class of 1960) and visit every 2-3 years. I get nostalgic whenever I visit, but do love life here in the high desert.
I wish you all well and will miss being at the reunion.Paul Miner

Hello to all and congratulations on the many wonderful accomplishments that many of you have done. It is really neat to read these stories. I went to work for Tektronix for a few years and then into the cheese business in Beaverton and then to Montana in the cheese business and have since had several positions in sales.....from insurance to automobiles and equipment.
I currently have my own business in the fastener industry...selling maintenance and repair products. I've been in the Big Sky Country since 1973. For fun, I am heavily involved in competitive shooting (primarily handguns) and travel a lot to matches throughout the NW. I, also, do a lot of firearms training classes for a variety of students. I have been married and divorced 3 times....and do not have any children

Although I moved half way through my Sr. year, I wanted to say Hi to all of my long lost Madison friends I have enjoyed reading about on this site. It has been wonderful. I have had a wonderful life since High School, although a year and a half ago I lost my Husband John (the Love of my life) to cancer, which has been devastating. I have 3 WONDERFUL boys, Ric is an entertainer and has been in Guam for 2 years, Randy is an entertainer at the Rio in Vegas, and Rob lives here in Portland with his family. I have had the opportunity to travel quite a bit and lived in L.A., Beautiful South Lake Tahoe and Vegas. I am now back in the BEAUTIFUL CITY OF ROSES, with my BEAUTIFUL SHA-TA (my little shih-tzu). I heard about the reunion late and was unable to attend. Maybe next one. Would love to see everyone.Crystal (Moon) Pedersen

40 years - Where has all the time gone? Could we really be that old? I was married to Dave Pedersen for 39 years (right out of high school). He worked for Wilhelm Trucking and Metro Rigging but passed away last year so being single is a very new experience for me.
I have two great children. Melanie, who is 39, lives in Orchards, Washington with her husband who works at Nike and three daughters who are very involved in soccer. Bob, who is 36, lives in Gresham with his new wife and together they have four kids.
After having children and getting them into high school, I had a lot of time on my hands so I decided to go back to work. I worked for an electrical contractor for 21 years and retired last year to take care of my husband. We moved to Boring three years ago after spending most of our married life on 6 acres with Johnson Creek running through and over it. Quite an experience but we loved the property and it was great for raising kids.
I envy all the traveling others have done but my vacations included the Northwest, Hawaii, Jamaica, Canada and Disney World in Florida. The only vacation I have planned this year happens to be the week of the class reunion. Wouldn't you know it. Now I will have to make a decision as to which one to attend.

Since high school I have lived in San Diego, Chicago, Nashville, Anderson, IN and Clearwater, Fl I'm a Nuclear Med, Ultrasound and x-ray and lab tech. I did teach and do research at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit Mich. I also was on the staff of Vanderbilt Univeristy Medical School and taught Nuclear Medicine.
I have been married twice, divorced twice, 4 children and 10 grandchildren. I live actually in Tarpon Springs, Florida which is just outside of Tampa and Clearwater on the Gulf of Mexico. It is a very beautiful area of old victorean homes along the bayous. I did live on an old estate on the Anclote river, just as if flows into the gulf for many years. Florida is a mixture of Americans from all over the country who have settled here. But rarely, do I meet anyone from the Northwest. The few I have met went back. Florida is still the Old South. The people do not talk with an accent in central Florida because it is urban but the politics are very much the Old South. Currently, I travel all of the US doing special work with radioactive materials. I plan to be in the Northwest this summer and hope to see all of you at the class reunion. Take care.

I have lived in Terrace for 25 years and became a Canadian Citzen in 1980 and had to give up our American Citzenship since at that time there was no duel Citzenships offered. Life has been good up here and we live in the mountains, about 120 miles from Hyder, Alaska. My husband retired 5 years ago from B. C. Hydro and we are enjoying the retirement life very much.
We have travelled alot and have taken a few cruises as well as trips to Florida where my husband's family lives. We spend our time at home with fishing (we have the best Salmon fishing right outside of our door) and we also take our travel trailer in July and go farther up North to a beautiful lake and trout fishing for a couple of weeks. In the fall we Pine Mushroom pick, we again take our travel trailer and go about 3 hours from home and camp for about 6 weeks and pick. We have made up to $10,000 in 5 weeks of picking and it is the best incentive for exercise with climbing mountains and climbing over logs and just being outdoors in our clean fresh air. During the Spring months my husband and I are involved in Terrace Beautification Society of which we volunteer our time with different projects around our small town to make it more beautiful. For 6 years now Howard and I have put on Our Annual Perennial Sale for the Society to make money for our different projects. At the beginning of Spring here which is not until April we call and ask people who are cleaning their gardens to please donate plants that they have to split up. Last year we had 1,600 plants and Howard and I dug, planted in pots, named and priced each plant, it is alot of work but everyone looks forward to the sale in May and this is the only way we have to make money besides donations. Our town is about 15,000 people and it takes us 7 hours to drive out to get to a major highway or we can drive 2 hours and take the overnight ferry from Prince Rupert, B. C. to Vancouver Island. Our health is good and we do so enjoy our beautiful area. We do have some bad winters and 2 years ago we had 4-1/2' of snow overnight and some years we have had accumulations of up to 14' during the winter. We get out no matter what the weather is and when we do go on holidays the traffic is what we have a hard time with, since a traffic jam up here is about 8 cars...ha

After accumulating degrees from Yale, the University of California at Berkeley, and Cornell University, I began the dual career hunt in the early 70s (together with my wife who is also an academic) for a suitable job. After three years teaching at Michigan State, we found better opportunities (and higher salaries) at the largest of the State Universities in Pennsylvania--Indiana University of PA.
We have been teaching and doing research there since 1976. We have also taught at Hangzhou University in China on a faculty exchange. We have published as a couple on a variety of issues including political problems in the Philippines, gender differences and job displacement, and the relationship between divorce and dual career incomes. Our work has been cited in the Wall Street Journal and U.S.A. Today, so we have had some modest success at popularizing some of our research.
We have two college aged daughters--one a junior at Dartmouth College and the other a freshman at Cornell University. We both very much enjoy teaching, research, the constant challenges in keeping current and in touch with the present generation of college students.Pat (O'Connor) Tyner

Going back 40 years and to fast forward will be interesting.
Joined the Army Security Agency in 1962. Was stationed in Harrogate England for three years in the army. Spent 4 more enjoying life and welding over there. Returned to the States end of 1968, still welding for a few months then it snowed in Portland and couldn't weld, needed $$$$$ so started work at Sears and that was fun. Spent 24 years with them.
Met an awesome lady there and have been married ever since, 32 years on September 27th this year. Was transfered to Wenatchee Washington in 1974 with Sears as their appliance, electronics etc. manager. Left them on an early buy out in 1992. Stayed with computers for the next eight years.
Now am working for an outfit named SAV-MART, basiclly same stuff I did at Sears only for a mom and pop store. Have one daughter named Debbie, her husband is Patrick and no grandchildren. She lives in the Seattle area.
On March 2,2001 I had a kidney transplant as my two originals didn't work anymore. Everything is going super. Hope you all have a ball at the reunion. I am really looking forward to seeing you all at the reunion. After traveling all over the United States, I've ended up back in Portland. I live just a few blocks from Prescott Elementary School, where I spent first and second grades. There's just no place like home!
After ten years in the Air Force, I went into ho management school. In the intervening years, I've lived an interesting life and have LOTS of stories to tell about my adventures.
I stay busy in my leisure hours by being active in the American Legion, the Masons, and Order of the Eastern Star. I've also done three Portland Marathons and walked on relay teams for the Hood to Coast five times and will do my sixth in August. Doing the "Columbia Classic Moonlight Walk" and volunteering for the Susan B. Komen "Race for the Cure" are always highlights of the walking season.
After twenty years of marriage, I was widowed in 1997. I met Fran in April, 1999 at the Tulip Festival Volkswalk in Monitor. We literally went "tiptoeing through the tulips" in the mud and the rain. We were married last October - you can see our wedding pictures HERE. We were both lucky enough to find our soul mates and we have been having a lot of fun exploring Oregon together.Linda (Raines) Long

It's going to be fun to see everyone after 40 yrs. Funny how when you get older you start reminiscing about hi school. I have been married for 37yrs to the same guy, Mr Bill. We have two daughters, Kathy and Suzi. Kathy is 35 and is a junior at PSU, she is also a massage therapist. Suzi is 33 and married with one son. She is a hairdresser and a pilot, what a combination!
I was a stay at home mom who worked part time, sometimes. My longest job was in admissions at MHCC-7yrs. Bill and I like to travel. We also like to camp in our travel trailer. I have lots of fun with my 10 yr old grandson Zak. I enjoy computers, photography, gardening, reading, biking, lots of stuff.Natalie (Rector) Taylor

Hi everyone! What a difference one high school class of 617 people has made. I'm proud and interested in all we have done and accomplished.
After graduating in education from Portland State U. I have been continuously involved in some form of education or teaching for 35 years. 34 years ago I ventured to California for a year or 2, I have worked in a variety of jobs in the same school district for all 34 of those years. WOW! How time flies.
There's more to life than work. Read 1000's of books, acquired almost 2 Master's degrees, lots of wonderful travels by land, sea and air close to home and throughout the world. Married to David for 25 years-- we've worked and played with zeal: skiing, rafting, camping travelling.
At one time we worked together to fix up and restore Victorian buildings in our spare time. After painting and repainting 50 bathrooms, I lost count and said, "Enough"! Now we support Habitat for Humanity.
Have lived in San Francisco and now Burlingame, Ca for the last 16 years. We have 1 great 19 year old daughter, Christine who has enriched and shared our lives. She is in college at Indiana University and is also a rower on the IU women's crew team. GREAT SCHOOL, GREAT SPORT!
Throughout all the parenting years I have been fully involved as a parent volunteer and supporter in a multitude of school, sports, church and community activities. My family still all lives in Oregon and now So. WA so we make several trips a year to the NW.
Looking forward to hearing from you and seeing you at the reunion.Mike Reinhart

Retired USMC. Pay is not good, but you can't beat the hours.......... Everyday seems like a Saturday.
I mostly enjoy fly fishing, golf and mountain bike riding in summer, and skiing & snow shoeing in winter. But the main reason I like the Methow Valley is we have a 1950s culture. Plus the deer and cattle out number the inhabitants about 4 to 1.
I regularly commute to San Diego to visit wife who lives and works on Coronado Island, and will retire from the US Navy in 2001. Plus I have two kids living in Orange Co. who both work at Disneyland. But after about two weeks in California, I get home sick for the Methow.
Made four trips to New Zealand and Australia between 1994 and 1996. Go to Methow.com for more info. The scene is like my front window. Pronounced: "met-how" for you people from the "coast".

Still in Portland, albeit, a westsider now, living in Beaverton and working for Intel out in the Silicon Forest. Life in Oregon does allow me to whitewater raft, play in bridge tournaments, and write--my passtimes of choice. The interesting thing about working for Intel is that every 7-years you work there you're awarded an 8-week paid sabbatical over and above your 3-week vacation. I became sabbatical-eligible in 2000, and took advantage of it by touring Europe for 4-weeks. My next-to-last port of call was Florence, Italy. My first night there my girlfriend and I were having dinner in the Piazza della Repubblica--an open-aired restaurant overlooking a nice square. We hadn't been there too long before two English-speaking women sat down at the table beside us. Conversation quickly led to the fact that one of the two ladies was from Portand, too. When she mentioned she had lived near Madison High School. I interrupted with, "I went to school there."
"So did I" came the amazed response. In a vain and too late attempt to shorten an already long story, the woman in question turned out to be none other than Andrea (Anderson) Davis, our rally-squad classmate of the class of '61. 39-years later and 6,000+ miles away we sat down and had dinner together. Now, I challenge the rest of you to top that "small world" tale.

Forty years since they turned us loose, and I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do when I grow up! Didn't quite graduate from Oregon State - lots of credits in too many majors.
Moved to Honolulu, married (Slater), moved to New Orleans, then back to Portland. Worked as a legal secretary to an antitrust attorney.
Divorced, moved to San Francisco, worked for a rock and roll promoter, saw lots of concerts, met lots of rock stars and eventually returned to Portland in late 70s. Started my own business (secretarial/desktop publishing service), and worked with the local chapter of a national association of chefs and cooks. Edited and produced a monthly publication and did some free lance writing for the national chefs magazine and a local trade hospitality trade journal.
Chefs ran out of money, clients went by the wayside, and I went back to regular work - first for a non-profit social service agency then for a real estate developer.
Eventually married, John, my partner for the past 20 years, and moved to the Oregon Coast (about 7 miles south of Newport at Ona Beach) in September 1999. The verdict is still out. It's a love-hate relationship with small city life, but I do love the ocean view.
Worked for a criminal defense attorney up until a few weeks ago and learned more than I ever wanted to know about the state's indigent defense program.
Now I'm enjoying the summer, playing the piano, taking classes in glass fusing, and thinking about what I want to do next.Herb Sims

Went to Oregon State after Madison. Graduated in Business Admin.-1965. Married Connie at Christmas in 1964. Commissioned as 2LT in Army. After Infantry and Airborne School attended Helicopter Pilot training and went to Vietnam for a year. Returned to teach new pilots in Texas for a year and then left active duty before another tour to VN. Back home to try civilian flying and would up working in a bank. Joined Oregon Guard as a pilot and was hired full time in 1971. Worked in many positions flying and in management and retired in June or 2001 as Chief of Staff. Connie retired two years later and we have been traveling and having a good time not knowing what day it is or caring. We have two wonderful children: Ken will be 37 this year and is married with two children (Amy-6 and Paul 1.5) He lives in Hillsboro and works for a software company. Katie is 31, not married, a CPA in California (south Bay area) and started her own firm this year. Since we retired our travels have taken us to Australia, New Zealand and all over the US. Spent last summer in Bar Harbor, Maine working in retail shops for the concessionaire at Acadia National Park. What an experience. We will be going to Germany this year for two weeks with friends. Our small motor home has taken us all over the West and Southwest and we have done over 10 Elderhostels all over the US and New Zealand. We have been married for 41.5 years and in the same home for almost 29. Grandkids, travel, friends and enjoying the Northwest have made retirement almost as enjoyable as growing up in NE Portland in the 50's. See you at the reunion. HerbKathy Siner Clayton

Hi, Everyone! It doesn't seem like 40 years have passed. After four great years at Madison, I went to Oregon State University. In 1965 I received my BA in Education and married Steve. We have been married for 36 years now. I taught 5th grade for two years while Steve earned his MBA from UC Berkeley. Then Steve spent four years in the Air Force as an officer. That was just a bit of a contrast to Berkeley in the mid 60's. Since 1971 we have been in the Bay area.
We have two sons. Craig is 33, graduated from Biola University, is married, and is a principal software engineer for Documentum. Brent is 30, graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and is a licensed architect with a firm here in Walnut Creek.
I returned to teaching when our boys were older, this time teaching 7th and 8th graders my favorite subjects: English and American history and government. After 16 years, I "retired" last year. I now speak at Christian Women's Clubs in California, sharing what God has done in my life. Tutoring students, gardening, reading, time with family and friends, and traveling with my husband -- these are things I enjoy greatly. Oh, I, too, went to Harvey Scott Elementary School and still have happy memories of those days. It's great to be "in touch" again!Vic Spainhower

Lets see - 40 years since high school sure goes by fast. All of these 40 years have been spent in the computer industry starting out in the Air Force where I received my initial training. You should have what we were using in the Air Force 40 years ago (maybe some of you did)! I've had a consulting company for the past 10 years but I'm currently working for a data processing service bureau doing client-server development.
Currently married and been married (a number of times) have 2 daughters and 3 grandkids. Wife is into horses so I've developed and market horse show software through a web site.
I've traveled extensively into Japan, Australia, China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Fiji Islands, Brazil while working for several international companies.
Glad to see we're going to have hot rods and classic cars. I've got a 50 Ford (some may remember the 49 ford I had in high school), 2 60 Pontiacs (one of these was in last years Portland Roadster show and took first place in its class, and a 63 Corvette split window (black on black) the first year of the stingray. All of these cars with the exception of the 63 manufactured while we were all in high school.

Recently I caught up with Sue Johnson and tried to catch up on all the things that have happened in the last 40 some years. I married in 1962 to a great guy, Madison hi grad of 59. We had a wonderful life together raising a son and daughter. I worked a Tek for 16 years and retired to care for my husband. I have been a widow since 1997 and have three grandchildren living in Hillssboro. I met a great guy and now am living in Ivanhoe, Minnesota and enjoying retirement.Marilyn Stewart

After spending time reading everyone's up-dates and looking at the pictures, I decided to include mine and some thoughts.
First of all, I was struck by the number of marriages that have spanned the decades. What wonderful memories you can share and how comforting it must be for your children. Then I thought about those who have lost mates or children, and Judy Hepner Booze who lost both. How strong and brave she is to grieve and then to live with resolve. I also enjoyed everyone's obivous regard and value for hard work and friendship, hearing about all the grandchildren and the zest for travel.
And now just a few reminiscences from high school: Dave D., Dan T. and Al O. - three of the nicest guys ever, my pretty neighbor Linda M, of Dan T. jumping our of the window in Algebra class, my crush on Mark O'D, Prom night-beach trip with Lonnie W., and hours in the yearbook room. So thank you to Julane for all of your work in compiling the web page, everyone that contributed and to my forever friend Judy Paul Seifer for telling me to go look. I've lived in Denver, Co. for almost 30 years. After high school I lived in Seattle, WA. (college), Santa Monica, CA. (taught school in Malibu), Oahu, HA. (school, travel and met my naval officer husband, Bill), Williamsburg, VA. (as a newlywed) and Lawrence, KA.( I taught and Bill attended law school.) After a trip to Europe for travel and the Munich Olympics we moved to Denver where my husband had a Appeals Court clerkship. In '75 we had a daughter Ginny, '78, Joe '75 and Michael'79. In the mid '80s we divorced but continued to raise our children as partners. I became a Real Estate agent. Ten years ago, one month after he ran a marathon and we appeared on a TV special about successful shared parenting, Bill died of a massive cerbral hemorrhage at 51. It was devastating for us.
Flash forward: Ginny graduated from CU and U of WA. She married Eric Luppo in Steamboat Springs, CO. where my sons walked her down the aisle. After Eric completed his masters at Stanford! they returned to CO. so Ginny could work at CU as the a cochlear implant audiologist. We just leaned that she was published for the fourth time at 26.
My boys are at CSU. Joe will graduate this summer with a marketing/business degree and then he and Michael will head to Europe for a month. Michael spent a year after high school working construction, getting his Black Belt and coaching high school LaCrosse. Now he is VP of his Frat and wants to teach high school and coach after he graduates.
I made Realtor Roundtable again this year. When time permits I play bridge, swim, run and read. Love my bookclub. My parents are still alive and my brothers - Gib in Salem, OR. and Gerry in Denver, CO. and I take turns traveling to Laguna Hills, CA. to visit them.
Cam you believe that 60 is just around the corner. As for me, I believe that "the best is yet to be".

After graduating from University of Oregon in music and math, I taught high school math classes in the big city of Burns, Oregon, for three years, before moving to Idaho. Taught one year in Moscow (Idaho) and Nampa before quitting to become Mom in Caldwell where I now live.
Have two children: Bob lives in Layton, Utah, and has son Travis who is now a second grader. The three of us just hiked in Capital Reefs for spring break, and enjoyed Disneyland last summer. Daughter Debbie lives half-mile away from me, has three-year-old son Jacob and gave birth to daughter Jenna on my birthday earlier this month.
Started a new career in 1994, A.D. (after divorce - 29 married years), and now teach orchestra students in grades 5-7. Have taught private violin lessons for over thirty years, and continue that with many joint activities with daughter Debbie who also teaches violin. Luckily, I really like both jobs or reading of all my retired classmates would be very discouraging.
Debating on attending the reunion this summer or going to Australia for a string teacher's conference. Been to Europe and Japan, but never Australia.

After spending way too much time representing the eternally innocent, who were always wrongly accused of murder, rape, arson, burglary...I branched out to represent the truly deserving in personal injury, worker's compensation and labor cases.
I was appointed by Governor Neil Goldschmidt to the Employment Appeals Board, where I heard cases and denied benefits to the truly deserving that I used to represent. My written opinions received many awards for run-on sentences and dangling participles. (Colonel Thomas and Miss Brunkow would be proud)
Moving on, I left our great state in the 80's and became the Director of Continuing Legal Education for the Connecticut Bar Association, which I did for 103 years (or so it seemed).
I am now enjoying not having to work. I live in Connecticut and Florida and still spend some time in Oregon. I am a Master Gardener and am involved with many horticultural projects. I sing with the Sweet Adelines International (who would have guessed? I have three children and three grandchildren.
I am truly impressed by the fabulous achievements of our classmates. I am shocked and saddened by the list of classmates no longer with us. Like they say, "Life is short, eat dessert first."
Very sorry to have missed the 40th reunion. Would love to hear from you.Bert Van Gorder

Hi Gang, James here, Warren, that is. I have thought about you guys from time to time (when I CAN remember that is). Things are going great for me and mine.
I am married and have four beautiful kids (who have kids of their own). We are by ourselves now minus the occassional visit from grandkids. My oldest son (Jim) works for IBM in a supervisory position. What he does not know about computers, give him 15 minutes and he'll figure it out. He is married and has one baby girl.
My youngest son flies for Soutwest Airlines and before that was a jet instructor in the Navy. My oldest daughter is a professional cake decorater and is also married. (No kids, YET). My youngest daughter has three great kids and is a country singer, with two CD's out. I have done quite well in the kid department.
My wife is a blue-eyed blonde (now greying). She is a beautiful person inside and out and has put up with me for 40 years. She deserves sainthood.
I will see you all at the reunion. I do not know for how long, but we'll be there.
I had a 1953 Ford F-100 guys, to die for. $13000 was invested in it. Flip front and everything. I took it to the F-100 nationals a few years back. I have since then, sold it. (Boo-oo-oo-oo. Expensive toy.)Al Webster

I live and work in Bay City, Michigan. I have lived in Michigan since I completed two years of college at Portland Community. Came here to complete my college education and made connection and stayed on. I am currently a plant manger of a metal fabrication and urethane processing plant.Esther (Word) Burgess
Married. Will celebrate 39 years just two days after our reunion in July. We have two children and two grandchildren. Our son is a fire fighter here in Portland and in his off time he works construction in his own business. Our daughter is an office manager/administrative assistant in a book bindary in Phoenix, Arizona. She has a daughter age 13, and a son age 8. Grandparenting is the greatest stage of life – love them and then send them home. It's great!
After my husband graduated from ministerial college here in Portland, we moved to Indiana where he preached in a rural church for eight years. Then we moved back to Portland where he assumed the senior minister position at the church where my father had preached all my growing up years. The church out-grew its facility on 76th just off Glisan and has since moved locations to 102nd just north of Halsey.
I have done a lot of music things since graduating. For 12 years I did arrangements for, played the piano for, and sang for a television program sponsored by the church. And for 10 years, our family had a mixed quartet which I sang in and played for. That was just lots of fun! Now I do all the keyboard work for the Sunday church services and sing in special-event choirs.
I work as a bookkeeper for a small graphic design studio. I also do a lot of graphic design things for the church and for our Christian School. Then just for fun, I took on doing transcription work for one of the pyschologists for the State of Oregon Corrections Division – Youth Authority. That is interesting work.
Over the years we have traveled to India four times – stopping in London several times and in Hong Kong – and to Africa once – all church related mission work.
Recently I have been under treatment for chordoma cancer in the neck. It is a rare thing, so I am most fortunate to have a local doctor at OHSU who knows what to do for it. Part of my treatment was proton beam radiation therapy in Loma Linda California. Now, there is some huge machine! Other than that, I am in excellent health (all of me), and enjoy life to the fullest.Stephen G Young

Hi All!
Well, when I was a kid I always wanted to grow up and be a nurse. So I've done that; even got a master's, and taught that. So am wondering whats next? My life is full with a lot of volunteer work in my ethnic community, church, nurses' association, walking outdoor trails, and good friends.
My grand daughter is a delight, and I am living a second childhood doing all the things I thought I would have liked to have done at that age. My daughter doesn't share the same taste in music, but grand daughter and I love to listen to 60's music and she knows the words, too.
Enjoyed seeing everyone at the reunion. Many warm memories. ThanksDanya (Yost) Woolsey
